Unit 3 Blog Post

  1. Based on your reflections, and on a scale of 1 to 10 (ten being optimal wellbeing), where do you rate your A-physical wellbeing, B-spiritual well-being, C-psychological well-being? Why?
  2. Develop a goal for yourself in each area (physical, spiritual, psychological).
  3. What activities or exercise can you implement in your life to assist in moving toward each goal?
  4. Complete the relaxation exercise The Crime of the Century.  (What it beneficial? Frustrating? etc.)
Physical --- I would say a 5.  I am not in poor physical condition but I have not stuck to my regular routine for the past few weeks.  More like the past 6 to 8 weeks.  I need to fix that.  Which makes this goal easy.  My Goal is to get back into my physical fitness routine. :) I will start with one of my cardio routines and morning yoga 2 to 3 times a week.

Spiritual --- I would say a 9.  I am very spiritual and lead and participate in many different spiritual organizations that pertain to my spirituality.  However, there is always room for improvement.  Thus, the 9.  My goal is to continue doing what I am already doing to the best of my abilities.  This is very easy to implement as well.  Just keep doing what I am.

Psychological --- I would say a 9 here as well.  I take things in stride and address them when they are presented to me in healthy ways that are appropriate in each situation.  Again there is room for improvement.  I need to pay attention to my calmness and inner peace when I am presented with a situation.  Which is my goal.  To maintain that inner peace when presented with anything.  This is best done by taking a deep breath and counting to 3 before responding to anything.

The Crime of the Century is a very misleading title for a Rainbow Meditation or better described as a Rainbow Chakra Meditation.  I always find this meditation to be relaxing and helpful.  So does my daughter.

My daughter is ten and enjoys meditation.  Her favorite though is a different Rainbow guided meditation called Rainbow Walking.  Rainbow Walking can be found in Ready... Set... R.E.L.A.X. by J. S. Allen and R. J. Klein.  In this guided meditation you also use the colors to help learn better visualization.

You can purchase the Ready... Set... R.E.L.A.X. online.

  2. Hello!
Our physical goals sound similar...get back into a routine! I have found it extremely ironic since starting back to school last year and writing paper after paper about the importance of exercise that I have "fallen off the wagon" myself! I miss my routine of going to the gym and my yoga class! I keep telling myself, "Do what you can now, then get back on board after graduation!" That is my goal...makes me extra excited to graduate this year :)

  3. Hi Eppie,
I always enjoy your posts, even from last class we had together, I think it was Art and Humanties. You are very through in your postings. I do see you as a very positive person for me to follow at this time because my numbers on all except spiritual are low. I too need to get into my old routine of exercise I just had a setback with my exercise equipment stolen from my home. How would you improve yours trategies for clients? If they were where you are they may get burnt out. Therefore you would have to change the routing as we learned in Current Trends in Exercise. Mix it up so they will not get bored and stop. Thanks for the website to purchase the Ready Set Relax meditation CD.
    Great Post!

  4. You are welcome Rita. It is a great book. I am sorry to hear about your fitness equipment. One of the things I do with my clients is I show them things they have around their house that they can use for fitness equipment. Try using soup cans, water bottles, and children as weights. Using your kids as weights also allows you to get really creative in what you do too. You can also go to the park with your kids or by yourself and see what is available on the playground. Playground equipment is full of fun surprise for a fitness routine. As far as burn out goes and motivational strategies it really depends on the person. What motivates you?

  5. Rachel –

I love to read all of your posts. It is very good to see that you are a 9 in your spiritual and psychological. I wish that I could say with a honest heart that I was at that level with both categories. The physical aspect I can understand that at times we fall behind on our physical activities but as you said it's just a matter of getting back in routine. Great job continue the good work.

  6. Hi Eppie,

Your posts are always so upbeat and entertaining... thanks! I am finding after reading over other blogs many of us have the same goals and scores are similar for some, too. Clearly, the majority of us have allowed our physical exercise and eating habits to take a hit with the work load of school and other life responsibilities. Learning to balance these factors and make time for the necessary activities to encourage optimal human flourishing is a true skill. The link you provide for the Ready, Set, R.E.L.A.X. meditation exercise is now one of my saved favorites. Thank you for sharing the link. This will be useful now and in the future.

    Yours in health,
    Marcella
